Dancing Creek Studio
Owner & Instructor - Frank Valenta
Carol
and I relocated to the mountains of Western North Carolina from
Long Island New York in 1998, where we had
been teaching dance part time since 1986, and opened Dancing Creek
Studio, a Ballroom Instruction Studio in
Fletcher. [Carol, my teaching partner and
my wife of almost 50 year, passed away November 24, 2011 and will be
missed by all that knew and loved her. As she would have wanted, D
C Studio will continue to operate and I will continue to teach.]
In our studio we provide Ballroom
dance Instruction in both Social and Choreographed Ballroom Dancing
which is also know as Round Dancing.
We teach all levels from beginners
through
advanced.
We teach the ballroom Smooth rhythms of the Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep
and the two variations of Tango (American and International) as well as
the Latin rhythms of Cha Cha, Rumba, Samba, Mambo, Merengue and three
variations of Jive (Single Swing, Triple Swing and West Coast Swing).
Our Social Dance instruction is based on the National Dance Council of
America (NDCA) standards. Our advanced Social Ballroom Dance and
Choreographed Ballroom Dance instruction is based on The International
Association of Round Dance Teachers, Inc. (Roundalab) figure definition
manuals and the international figure definitions as defined by the
Imperial Society of Dance Teachers (ISDT).
We limit our instruction to social dance and do not teach competition
ballroom. However, Choreographed Ballroom dancing is done to pre-written
dance choreography with all participating couples executing the same
figures at the same time in response to vocal cues. The knowledge and
skills needed to do Choreographed Ballroom dancing is very much akin to
what competition ballroom dancers do but done in a very non-competitive
atmosphere. Choreographed Ballroom Dancing is enjoyed by many all around
the world.
We are Instructor Members of: Roundalab - The International Association
of Round Dance Teachers, Inc., URDC - Universal Round Dance Council and
USA DANCE [Formally USABDA-United States Amateur Ballroom Dancers
Association]
In addition to teaching, we write dance choreography that is used as
part of the Choreographed Ballroom Dancing activity.
